Nayy Yard Community Guide Real Estate More than just the Navy!
History and Flavor
Its name brings to mind images of towering majestic ships coming and going, sworn to protect our interests worldwide. But the Navy Yard neighborhood in Ward 6 is home to so much more than just the US Navy, which has made this area home over 200 years ago. It’s not only become a hub of social activity within The District but a sought-after place to put down roots.
Located along the deep Anacostia River, the Navy Yard district has become well known to millennials as the home of the Washington Nationals and their state-of-the-art stadium Nationals Park. The nearby National Museum of the U.S. Navy will bring you up to speed on the celebrated nautical history of our great country.
Aside from the Navy, the area was almost exclusively industrial for much of its history and suffered a fair amount of pollution. Only since the late 1990s has there been a push to clean the area up and welcome new businesses. The last piece of the revitalization was the construction of some residential housing which continues to this day. With over 2,264 residents now calling the area home, the revival has been a success. You can find studio apartments and spaces for larger families in the area.
