Eastern Market
The grandaddy of DC farmer’s markets, Eastern Market has been a fixture on Capitol Hill since 1873. Offering everything from meats, pasta, and baked goods to pottery, paintings, and jewelry, Eastern Market is open every day but Monday, so you are sure to find time in your schedule to stop in.
Tuesdays and weekends feature the open-air fresh produce market, but there’s always something fantastic to sample. And with community events like the Potluck Supper, you never know who you’ll find to share your supper with.
Arcadia Mobile Market
Offering a variety of produce from local grower Arcadia Farms throughout the metro area, Arcadia Mobile Market seeks to provide great food to areas that are underserved by traditional retailers. USDA Farmer’s Market
Open Fridays May through October, the USDA Farmer’s Market is a “living laboratory” for US farmer’s markets. Open Saturdays May through November, the 14th and U Farmer’s Market is a quintessential in-town market with a variety of produce, meats, cheeses, prepared foods, flowers, and more. A local favorite in this hippest of DC neighborhoods, you can’t go wrong with a stop here on your way to brunch.
Capital Harvest on the Plaza
Open Fridays May through November, the Capital Harvest on the Plaza Farmer’s Market is located at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue and features a variety of artisanal food vendors alongside the produce stands. And with everything from juices to crepes to spices to coffee roasters, you may find that this is the only place you’ll have to go to fill out your shopping list.
Mt. Pleasant Farmer’s Market
Saturday mornings April through December, you’ll find your neighbors at this charming farmer’s market “on the plaza, under the trees.”
This is a producer-only market, meaning the vendors are also the growers and makers, so you’ll always know what you’re buying. With local talent shows, face painting, and dogs and kids running around, it’s more like a neighborhood fair that happens each week, making it a highlight of life in this homey DC neighborhood.
