Restaurants in DC Best for Quick Bites

We love trying all of the incredible fine dining restaurants throughout DC. After all, this is the mecca for so many of the most innovative chefs and restaurateurs in the country, and it seems like every neighborhood has its Michelin-in-the-making iconic eatery.

But at the same time, we’re all so busy and we don’t always have time to have a meal that is also an experience. Sometimes we’re just out and about and starving, and we want a fast, reliable place where we know we’ll get something we love without waiting all day. Here are some restaurants in DC best for a quick bit.

Nando’s PERi-PERi (website)

Incredible Portuguese-style roasted chicken but the sauces are the real stars. Often a line, but it moves quickly–they’ve got this down to a science. The rustic interior will make you feel right at home. You’ll see why Nando’s is world-famous after the first bite, and this may just become one of your favorite places (if it isn’t already).

sweetgreen (website)

One of the hardest things about eating on the run is keeping it healthy. sweetgreen takes care of that for you, with healthy, seasonal options that emphasize sustainability and community health and service. With options for vegans and vegetarians, gluten-free options, and more, you’re sure to find something delicious. And with locations all over the area, you’re sure to find one nearby.

District Taco (website)

Whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you’re sure to find fresh, made-from-scratch Mexican deliciousness at District Taco. With locations all over the area, District Taco continues to expand and will soon be opening a Riverdale Park, MD location. Fast and affordable, you can choose from a variety of toppings, or order “American Way, Mexican Way, or Jefe Way.”

The Greek Spot (website)

Though they place an emphasis on freshness and environmental consciousness, all you need to worry about is the outrageously good food you’ll get here. The gyros and spanakopita are local favorites, as are the fries. With online ordering, you never have to wait but can pre-schedule your pickup and be in and out in just a few minutes. And the best part? They deliver, too.

Buredo (website)

An area favorite, Buredo continues to expand and will soon be opening Atlas District and NoMa locations. Hand-held burrito-sized sushi rolls feature an eclectic variety of incredible fillings from a range of food traditions, both throughout Asia and around the world. Fish is sustainably harvested and there are many options for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes.

Wiseguy NY Pizza (website)

The best slice in town is created here, and Washingtonian once wrote an homage just to the aroma of the place. Sister restaurant to Beef ‘n Bread, Wiseguy is creating some epic pizza at unbelievably affordable prices. Want to go big? Try the 18” Very Large Pie, but please, bring help.

Taylor Gourmet (website)

Incredible hoagies featuring a variety of seasonal ingredients, Taylor Gourmet takes every step of the sandwich making process seriously, from chopping toppings in small batches so they stay crunchy to the freshness of the rolls to the homemade toppings and sauces. You can get a whole decadent lunch for about $10–not bad for one of the best sandwiches you ever put in your mouth.

Tortilla Coast (website)

Whether you come for brunch, lunch, dinner, or happy hour, this Capitol Hill mainstay will get you in and out fast while serving you some of the best Tex Mex in town–just like they’ve been doing for almost three decades. Come by after work and grab something delicious at the bar before heading out to your next stop.
